anew Dawn Therapy
Dawn approached me and Mary McCarthy to design her brand and website as a complete package. Her brief was to have a website that was clean and simple whilst at the same time reflect her holistic approach to her therapies.
Mary worked on the branding design package for Dawn, which included the logo design, printed media and colour palette. Once approved by Dawn, she passed the relevant information to me with a basic outline of how Dawn would like the web pages to look in their layout.
Through several iterations and discussing the web design process, we settled on a soft theme for the website accentuating the colour palette with softly rounded images to reflect the nature of Dawn’s work providing holistic therapies to her clients.
Going forward, a further phase is planned where Dawn will be able to allow her clients to book sessions online, provide digital gift vouchers as well as the possibility to sell products through an e-commerce solution.
This is a perfect example of the work both Mary and myself achieve when we project manage a client's branding and web design from start to end, keeping the client involved at all stages. We achieved a complete branding and website solution which Dawn is thrilled with.
The Freelance Web Directory is a way to allow freelance web professionals to advertise their business, and allow clients to find a freelancer to carry out specific pieces of work.
To achieve this, a back-end CMS system was implemented to allow records to be easily added, either for the freelancer listing, or for the client wanting to reach out to the freelance web professional community to ask for assistance,
As well as free listings, it was important to allow for paid listings too. This has been achieved by integrating forms created in Cognito to a payment processing gateway to collect the fees (using Stripe).
The end result is a fast and efficient website that can accommodate the continuing growing needs of the Freelance Web Directory to attract both paid and free listings to the directory.
Additionally, the Freelance Web Directory wanted to be able to accept blog posts from third parties using a submission process and to credit those writers using a profile system. This was also achieved using the back-end CMS system and Cognito working hand in hand.
Virtual-Realities Ltd needed their website overhauled. As part of this overhaul they wanted the ability to have an online directory to showcase VR arcades and events to it's visitors.
Virtual-Realities were moving away from a Joomla based website which had become tedious to manage, was slow, and lacked the ability to add the new features needed to accommodate the new direction they were taking. After an initial meeting, I was able to spec out how I saw the design and how the new design of the website could meet their requirements. Over the period of three weeks, we fine-tuned the website and operational elements that allowed Virtual-Realities to offer both free and paid listings in the directory.
Another requirement was the ability to collect information online within the website as opposed to having to be redirected outside of the site. To achieve this, I incorporated Cognito Forms into the website to allow companies to add their information into the directory. This afforded Virtual-Realities the ability to collect information through a series of workflows depending on whether the entry was a free or paid entry. It also allowed them to collect payment from within the form using Stripe.
Virtual-Realities is now looking forward to building a comprehensive directory of virtual reality related arcades, suppliers and events.
I recently had the privilege of helping US Actor Nicholas Downs revamp his website. Nicholas wanted something that would help him show his work as well as having a blog to keep his fans updated.
I've known Nicholas for some years now and originally helped him put together a website in Joomla some years ago. However, Nicholas was finding it hard work trying to keep things updated in Joomla, so we looked at how best to enhance his online presence with a brand new website.
Nicholas is a busy man, so simplicity was the key driver to the new website. He wanted to be able to just jump straight in and add new pictures, or a blog entry. This is something the old Joomla site couldn't give him. Plus he wanted the new website to be fully responsive so it would show well on all devices from the PC to the smartphone.
After several weeks of work, and numerous Skype calls, we finally came up with a design which I think perfectly suits Nicholas. The site is in hues of blue, Nicholas's favourite colour, and is the perfect platform for him to add new photos and keep his many fans updated with regular blog posts.
David Booher is a writer in the United States. He approached me to design his website after seeing the website I did for Nicholas Downs.
David's brief was that he wanted something classic that reflected his love of writing, as well as allowing him to share his short stories with people. Most importantly, David wanted something that could easily be updated by himself as and when required without having to learn all the intricacies of HTML and CSS. This has been achieved by allowing him to edit the content of the website in an easy to use interface.
To give the website the feel of a writer, we chose a monospaced font that resembled a typewriter font. It certainly gives the website a feeling as if it has just been typed up on an 1930's typewriter.
Another one of David's passions is writing for comics. He currently has two comics that he's involved with, Powerless and Alien Bounty Hunter and he wanted to showcase some artwork from these. This has been achieved by including selected artwork in a portfolio which allows his visitors to view with ease.
It was a pleasure to work with David and he was keen to take on-board my suggestions, or to expand on ideas that I had about the design of the website.
